I couldn't find anyone else talking about this on here yet so I figured I would bring it up in case any in the Portland DMA weren't aware. It looks like Dish and KOIN are having a negotiation dispute which take it off of Dish starting the end of January 15th. Here is the link to KOIN's website about it:

I, for one, really hope they figure it out soon as CBS is probably my most watched channel.

Anyway, they (KOIN) have been side-scrolling messages for Dish Network customers during programs to alert them to the possible interruption.

KOIN is owned by New Vision Television which recently came out of a bankruptcy reorganization. The dispute involves more than just KOIN. Here's what New Vision owns:
  • KOIN in Portland, OR - CBS affiliate.
  • WIAT in Birmingham, AL - CBS affiliate.
  • KSNW in Wichita, KS - NBC affiliate.
  • KHON in Honolulu, HI - Fox & The CW affiliate.
  • WJCL in Savannah, GA - ABC affiliate.
  • WKBN in Youngstown, OH - CBS affiliate.
  • KSNT in Topeka, KS - NBC affiliate.
  • KIMT in Mason City, IA - CBS & My Network affiliate.
I went to the WIAT Birmingham web site and found this:

Frequently these disputes are resolved at the last minute, but who knows how financially stressed New Vision is and whether they will try to hold out.

EDIT: Also the Dish may cancel Local Channel WKBN thread is about a New Vision station. Maybe a moderator could figure out a new thread title and combine these threads.

A few years ago, I switched a bunch of timers from KATU to KOIN when KATU pulled something like this. If it happens, I guess I'll switch those over to KGW or KPTV.

Thank you, Dish, for doing what you can to hold prices in check.

CBS (& others) already jack around with not so clear TV audio to add that 'sibilance' effect to make you think it is 'clear, nice & articulate' audio, and then KOIN adds even more!

God Awful sounding ultra sibilant crap, and it is NOT on other CBS stations just KOIN! YUCK! Must be ran by the 'hard of hearing' crew!

PS: Just moved from Portland station DMA and was so relieved to get away from that lousy crappy KOIN CBS sound, idiots & the unsophisticated and their decisions!! (relieved)
