Please forgive what might be a stupid question, but your help may save me a lot of time and money...

Is the "main" Dish satellite in the same orbital slot as the "main" Directv satellite (I think 101 East)? And are the original Dish and Directv LNBs the same?

Here's why I ask. My daughter has an old Directv SD installation. Single LNB. I believe that means it's pointed at 101 degrees East. She's moving this weekend and her antenna is on the roof. Very hard to get to.

The new house has an old Dish single LNB antenna already installed. If this older Dish antenna is pointed at 101 East and the LNB is the same type, it should be a simple matter of hooking her Directv receiver to the Dish antenna. Will it work? Do I have to repoint the Dish antenna to Directv's satellite? Will I need to change out the LNB?

Thanks,
Scott

directv uses 101 as the main, Dish uses 110 and 119
The LNBS are different

Movers connection will install new dish for her, no problem

Directv has this "movers connection" program because they want to keep you as a customer. So it's time for you to play "Let's make a Deal". Why not aim for a new HD DVR, they will take care of the upgraded dish and installation, and likely at minimal cost. Even if she doesn't have a HDTV now, you'll get the new latest stuff and be ready for the future. Heck, buying a new house and moving is a lot of work, treat her to a new HDTV.

P.S. 101E puts your over Iraq/Iran or some darn place in the middle east. We are west of Greenwich, England so it's 101W.

I have personally seen a customer receiving DirecTV service on a Dish Network satellite dish and LNB. It blew my mind that it was working, but an extensive search of the property confirmed the customer's insistence that it was the only dish on the property.

Dish's "legacy" LNBs work exactly like DirecTV LNBs, and are interchangable. Most of the switches are not, as the stack plan is different.

You cannot use DishPro or DishProPlus LNBs with DirecTV.
