Hi All,

Looking to make the plunge and upgrade my Dish 942 to the VIP622 since I cannot get FOX_HD OTA here (northern NJ). I currently have a 942 and have compared the CBS-HD OTA (1080i) to the MPEG2 channel on Dish. The OTA channel is noticeably better quality.

For those that can receive both the CBS-HD OTA and MPEG4, how is the picture quality? Also can anyone tell me how the MPEG4 quality is vs the MPEG2 channels?

Thanks

Aside from the pixelation issues and audio stuttering and out of sync problems, it is great!

The last software release (3.65) seemed to enhance some of these problems. The OTA vs. MPEG4 picture quality is almost imperceptible in my opinion. If you A-B them, you really have to study the picture to find the differences. In a lot of ways the MPEG4 signal is superior. I really think MPEG4 is easier on the eyes than MPEG2.

I have no problems whatsoever about ANY of the MPEG4 channels other than the issues mentioned above. Other threads discuss these issues in detail and I am confident E* will address them soon.

CBS-hd is not currently MPEG4 out of NY/LA. It is still MPEG2. This may be changing now that Distants are not allowed.

Thanks. At least I get CBS NY HD OTA full strength on the 942, so should be no problem on the 622. Only reason I am switching is to get Fox NY in high def. Fox is the only NY area digital channel I cannot receive. This is with a Winegard HD-9085P antenna and an AP-4800 28 dB gain mast mount preamp. I'm about 35 air miles from NYC but I think Fox is nulling their signal in my direction since they are co-channel with Scranton, PA on channel 44.

The 622 should be arriving Monday via UPS.
