I was one of the people that jumped ship over to Directv when AMC was still not on Dish network, when the third season of Walking Dead premiered. The promotion that Directv offered was to pay up to $200 of my ETF.

I paid my final bill, which included the $17 charge for shipping the equipment back. However, I did not get charged the ETF for the 9 months left on my contract. The first time I called they said it would be $157, but to wait for it. Today I called, after 4 weeks, and they said I did not owe anything. I asked twice if they were sure, and the rep said if I had not received the bill by now, it probably got waived.

I did mention when I cancelled my subscription, that I was doing so because of the lack of AMC after five months. Could this be the reason I was not charged an ETF, at least as of now, which has been about a month?

I was also wondering if Dish does not charge me an ETF, will Directv still give the the $200 Visa Gift card? If I had subscribed through Costco, I would have got a $200 gift card, or through AAA, a $200 credit towards my bill on top of Directv's best offer.

I would not expect a "rebate" for a fee never paid. If DISH does end up charging you the ETF, DirecTV's offer is to pay that amount ... so it will end up being a wash (a $157 card to cover the $157 rebate). At least that is the way "up to" normally works.

You may wish to PM a DISH Internet Response Team member with your account information to see if the account is closed completely or if there is an ETF pending. See this thread for a list.

Watch your credit card statement. I have seen Dish charge the early termination fee directly to the credit card and not on the bill. I would not feel safe until after 3 months.

That would be really inconvenient to wait 90 days, considering Directv only gives me 90 days to send a copy of my final bill. That being said, I guess my real question is has anyone ever heard of Dish waiving the ETF, or is normal for it to take more than 30 days for the ETF charge to appear on my card on file with them? I have been checking my bank charges everyday. Also, I did receive a paper bill, which I have never received before, since I have had autopay and paperless billing since day 1. It reads, "This statement reflects your final balance. The amount due will be automatically charged to your credit card or bank account." The final amount due was charged on 11/03/12. I'm just asking if anyone has had the ETF waived?

I don't know if I would call it a "betrayal", as so much as choosing a provider that carried AMC. Dish had 4 or 5 months to get it back, and I can look at as a sort of "betrayal" to me. As to the me,me,gimme,gimme stuff, again that's the free market at work. If I go buy a new car, and they want to give me a rebate, 0% interest, and a other discounts, I'm going to take it. Directv wanted me as a new customer, and made a generous offer. If Dish didn't drop AMC, I NEVER WOULD HAVE LEFT. Unfortunately, they brought it back a week too late.

If you are looking for authoritative answers about YOUR account that is the way to get them. If you want guesses based on previous reading and experience you will find it in public threads. But if you really want to know if the ETF is pending, PM DIRT.


BTW: I do not consider you a gimme, gimme, gimme - otherwise you would have subscribed using the $200 Cosco or $200 AAA rebates instead of the net $157 refund your ETF deal and come out $43 ahead (assuming DISH charges the ETF).

Which indicates the OP may not get the full $200 anyways if they can only show a charge of $150 or so.

Betrayed!!! HAHAHAHAHA I almost fell out of my wheelchair laughing!!!! If you think leaving a company is betrayal you really need to get out of the house and get a girlfriend. Betrayed that's a good one man. The sad part is you believe it. Life is to short for that.

To make you feel better I signed up with Dish and love it so far so lets call his leaving a wash.

My friend you do what's best for you and your family. Don't let anyone here make you feel bad for doing what you want to do. Some people here get off on that and it's really sad. I hope everything works out for you.

Being charged for something and not receiving any statement of the charge would deem it invalid and illegal. If a charge is done there must be an invoice, bill, for it to be presented to the customer.

While DISH may not send something that is titled the Final Bill they must send out a statement of any charges that take place regardless of the account status. If they do not they would lose every collections case they ever attempted.
