Dish keeps moving.. tips?

955 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  ironwood
A few months ago.. and a few months prior to that.. directv has had to
come out an realign my dish. Its is mounted on the roof with those extension
arms but the dish keeps moving just enough to lose 20 or so HD channels.

They are coming back Sat to align it again..

Any tips for having the installer do it right?

The last time I went up on the roof and watched them tighten
the bolts tight.. But I guess it didnt hold or something else is
wrong with my install... its only one Satellite that is affected I
think.

Thanks Mike

Self tapping screws in the monopoles.

Have them hit a stud this time.
That is one really long lag bolt to go from the roof into a stud. :D

Actually that would be a lag screw. You COULD substitute a lag bolt and use a fender washer from the back side.

I always use bolts when going through the roof and into a wall stud. If you are going to do it, you might as well do it right.

Kidding guys.

A two-and-a-half-foot lag screw should work if it's a low-pitched roof and you mount close to an outside wall.
As you make your decision on how to secure it, take a sharpie and mark its position on the pole so you can move it back yourself.
Is the big dish mounted on the facia? If a dish needs to be realigned more than once then probably its not the dish thats moving but the surface its mounted to such as unsupported facia.
