I am about to sign up for the Dish upgrade to a 622 from an SD DVR... I have heard some folks have issues with the HD locals dropping out in my area, and OTA is not an option for me. I was curious if both the HD and SD local channells would be availabe through the program guide, or if only the HD would be... In case of audio drops, etc.. would the SD be available as a backup..

Thanks for the help... Also, my wife currently thinks our SD E* channels look great, so why upgrade ..:nono2: How much improvement should i expect over the 625 to my 46" sony 720p display..

Thanks guys... great forum!!!

HD is like looking through a window instead of watching TV.

The problem is that the HD locals are the 129 sat which is wobbly and irratic.

Ok, thats great to hear!... I currently have the 500, is the 1000 part of the upgrade for existing subribers switching to the 622... sorry for the basic questions.
The 622 upgrade includes all hardware, including Dishes to get all the channels in your package, including the HD channels. The HD newer channels are mirrored on 61.5 and 129 so this may mean a Dish1000 for you or it could be a separate Dish pointed at 61.5.

The Atlanta HD locals are on 129 only.

Then most likely the install would be a Dish1000, or if the installer prefers he/she could end up doing a side dish just for 129 and leave the existing dish in place. It all comes down to the installer, though you can try and request what you want.

This may be a bit off topic but I was wondering...My PQ for my locals (roanoke, va) has been awful as of late. Very blocky, and choppy. Basically it looks WAY overcompressed. This of course shows up a lot worse on my big screen then it does other tv's in the house but it is still noticable. Is dish having some sort of problem with their locals? My other SD channels like fine (as far as SD goes anyway). But at this point I'm thinking I may get an antenna and just pick up what locals I can OTA, they at least broadcast in DTV around here, no HD yet though...any suggestions or ideas?
