Dish location for new install

1030 Views 9 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  BattleZone
I'll be moving into my new house in a couple of weeks and have a question. I really want to avoid having the Dish mounted to my roof. Aside from drilling lag bolts in there, it's just too damn high should I need to brush snow off the thing in the winter and/or check alignment in the future.

My question is, is there another place to mount these heavy slimline HD dishes other than the roof in such a way that won't destroy parts of my new house? My wife is so concerned in fact that she suggested we *gasp* "just get cable" *cough* *gag* She doesn't want any unnecessary holes in our brand new siding (women are so fickle).

I'm just looking to see what options I'll have when the installer comes out so that I'm not expecting too much or too little. Any insight and/or examples would be appreciated on this.

Does this fall under the standard "Mover's Connection" hookup or will they charge me extra?

Onle pole mounts to get LOS are free. So yeah you most likely will be charged for the pole mount.
Just make sure that you tell as much people ahead [ D*, local HSP ] that you need/ want a pole so that the chance of a reschedule is the smallest.

Don't let them put the slimline in the siding. That's a big nono.
I know that some people don't want a dish installed on their roof but I am the exact opposite. I had mine installed on the roof with both E and D. That is where I wanted them. When I couldn't get los with one of E's sats the install guy tried using a pole in the front yard. It looked terrible but luckily it didn't work out and D came to my resuce and got los on the roof right next to where the E dish was at.

By the way he wasn't going to charge extra for the pole. E was just trying to get los so they wouldn't lose me as a customer. I don't know whether D would charge extra for a pole or not!
KA/KU pole mounts are free from the HSP, whether LOS is an issue or not. Just a little known fact.
That depends on the HSP. Quite a few of them charge for pole mount if it is not for LOS.

Just like superfan for the sunday ticket. lol

We charge $99 as mandated by Dtv. Its right in the HSP contract.
Each contract is different. Here, Ka/Ku pole mounts are free unless it's a customer request because they don't want it on their roof or something.

Not in California!

DirecTV's contract with the HSPs requires the HSP to install a pole mount free to the customer IF there is no LOS from anywhere on the house itself. Otherwise, they are a custom charge.

Some HSPs in some of their locations force their installers to do them all for free, but that's an individual HSP rule, not a DirecTV rule. And, regardless, the installers are *supposed* to be paid extra for doing those pole mounts, but that virtually never happens.
