DISH Network™ Introduces TV On The Go

DISH Network's MobileDISH™ Provides Travelers With Their Favorite TV Programs While On The Road

2007 International CES

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) and its DISH Network™ satellite TV service today introduced the MobileDISH in-car satellite service, a programming package by DISH Network combined with cutting-edge antenna technology from RaySat™. The MobileDISH technology allows DISH Network customers to watch live satellite television from their vehicles, even while in motion.

"We're excited to partner with RaySat because we know people today are always on the move and have a need for TV even while on the road," said Mark Jackson, President of EchoStar Technologies. "The MobileDISH technology is just another example of how we're providing our extensive line of cutting-edge technology and exceptional programming packages to reach our 13 million subscribers everywhere."

The mobile satellite antenna, designed by RaySat™, mounts to a vehicle's roof rack and provides hundreds of channels of all-digital DISH Network satellite TV with programming for everyone in the family. The MobileDISH technology is perfect for occupying the kids, monitoring weather and road conditions, keeping up on breaking news and watching movies on long road trips.

The MobileDISH technology is compatible with existing vehicles including most cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and trucks and performs exceptionally well at highway speeds. More information about the MobileDISH technology, including package information and price details, is expected to be released in Spring 2007.

E* does not offer distants --- however their system should work with NPS distants.

How are we going to connect this to our home phone line to avoid the $5 fee? :)

Lorex LL Miler 5,000-Ft. CVA5000RJ11 RJ-11 Extension Cord

CVA5000RJ11

Radio Shack has just announced the new "LL Miler", a new 5,000 ft RJ-11 designed
specifically for mobile sat applications. For longer distances, multiple lengths can be
used, but connecting more than three lengths requires the use of a powered repeater.

Price of the "LL Miler" (150-5000) has not yet been announced. www.radioshack.com

Perhaps it's just me but this thing seems unbelievably stupid. They are spending R&D time on this crud?

Let me guess:

It'll cost a big fat bundle.
It'll cost a monthly fee on TOP of any "extra receiver" fee for existing accounts.
It'll work like crap in any area other than open highway.
It will only receive a very limited set of channels, much like DirecTV's service on Frontier Airlines.

The antenna also looks huge, which means it's use on regular cars and sedans will be limited at best - sure it might fit, but it will look retarded. Also it'll be a prime target for thieves along with the rest of your car - "Hey, these guys can afford a in-motion satellite system for their car! Let's see what other fancy gear they have *crack*".

Do I have that about right? I see a very, very small segment of users being happy about this - RV motorists. And then only maybe. Parents with small children will find it to be far cheaper and easier to just pop in that Disney DVD.

Maybe I'm being cynical here, but man I look at that giant "roof rack" antenna and just laugh. You have got to be kidding me.

By "They" I assume you mean Echostar? "They" put no R&D into it. It is manufactured by a totally different company. Dish is simply showing it at the show and offering it to their customers.

$2495 retail

Nope

I suspect open highway is probably what it is designed for.

Nope. It will receive all channels on 110 and 119 (not or 119). It takes a few seconds more to change channels when going to a different satellite, but it does the job.

I don't see anyone with a Honda Civic mounting it to the roof. It is designed for SUV's or motorhomes, not cars. The typical Honda owner isn't the target, nor would the typical Honda owner spend on this.

Gee, ya think? ;)

I think you will be surprised at how many motorhomes, rv's, suv's and boats end up with this thing. It's not aimed at the low end market, sure, but then neither are the motorhomes, rv's, suv's and boats that they are aiming for.

By the way, DirecTv showed the "same" product from a different manufacturer, so obviously both companies feel there is a market worth chasing.

I'd walk nearly a mile to get to the end of that cable. But two would get me to work ... if only I could get permission to attach to the utility poles. :)
