Dish Network in bay area

All,

I will be moving to Sunnyvale, CA shortly. I would be interested in taking Dish (Top 100 + Locals + HD + Couple of south asian internationals).

Please confirm if a single dish would cover all the E* channels? If yes will it be 500+ or 1000+ (110,119,118.7 and 129 i think for HD locals).

What will be the approx cost for Top 100 + locals + HD package?

Will there be separate costs for HD DVR?

What are the current specials and is there any advantage with going through a retailer (AAA satellites) rather than directly with DISH?

If my patio has clear visibility to south direction in sunnyvale (94086) will i get dish?

SFO HD locals are on 119, but you'll need 129 if you're going HD and want any of the nationals on 129 which are a lot of HD channels. Theoretically you shouldn't have any problems getting what you want though many have problems with 129 and prefer two dishes, one for 129.

If there is an established reputable local retailer who installs, based on my experience in my area I think you'd be better off. But my daughter in SFO has had good luck with dealing with Dish directly and has neighbors with international channels who seem happy with Dish.

1000+ is a pretty big dish, you likely will be able to do fine with that until the new stronger satellite for 129 comes online in about 6 months.

PS Right now HD-Net is showing World Report with an extensive report on India's middle class, including new shopping malls (interesting that the signs are all in English).

I was wondering if I can get 1000+ for HD at 129° and get LNB going 118.7° as well for internationals. This possible?

500+ is no HD.

1000+ adds the HD slot (129).

If you sign up for HD, they will install a 1000+. It should not be any different cost to you.

Correction: if you sign up for International and HD, they will install a 1000+. If you just sign up for HD, you'll get a 1000.2, and if you just sign up for International, you'll get a 500+.

I have a old Voom dish in the bay area - can I still plug that into my DP44 and expect to get HD programmings?
I have a old Dish 500 for 110, 119 and another for 148.
But no high definition inspite of having a DP44 and a 622 receiver

All the SF locals were pulled off of 148 long ago. Unless you have a compelling reason to still be pointed to it, just move that one to 129. That's what I did.

Your old Voom dish is the equivalent of a Dish 300, and has a "legacy" type LNB that isn't compatible with your DPP44 switch. And because it uses square-channel "DirecTV-style" LNBs and not D-channel "DishNetwork-style" LNBs, you can't change it.

However, if you repoint your 148 dish to 129 (assuming it has a DP Dual LNB currently), then you'd be all set, assuming you aren't currently getting anything off of 148. There are still a few International packages left on 148, but they are being migrated off 148 and on to 118.7 (requiring a Plus dish) at the rate of about a package a month.

Can I assume that 1000+ will satisy AT100+BronzeHD+Locals(HD)+South asian internationals in santa clara / sunnyvale area?

The Dish 1000+ will allow you to receive ALL Dish Network programming available in the Bay Area. The only things missing would be some 61.5 HD locals for some east coast and mid-west cities that aren't available here anyway.

The patio/balcony should have SOUTH or SOUTH EAST skies for good reception on 1000+ satellite?

Is there any reason why DISH/retailer will not install 1000+ and would go for 2 separate dishes for HD and international?

I had the installation today for dish 1000 PLUS today.

Amazing instal with VIP 722 receiver.

I can give the installer info if anybody wants to go with DISH (or even DIRECTV) in the Bay area, California.

In the Bay Area, the dish will face almost due south (true, not magnetic), and needs about a 20 degree arc at about a 45 degree angle of elevation.

I know some shady retailers are still putting up wing dishes pointing at 148 for international programming instead of installing 1000+ dishes (which are much more expensive), but that violates Dish policies. International customers are only to be installed with a Plus dish (500+ or 1000+).
