Dish reception different for MPeg4?

I understand that the reason the installer had to replace my 3LBB dish with a 5LNB is because the MPeg-4 HD Locals come off a different satellite.
But is there a way to separately aim the LNBs? My dish is on top of a 2 story roof, so I can't get close enough to see the exact setup.

Tonight for the 4th time since the upgrade/install, I lost 2 recordings. Both were set to record on my local CBS mpeg-4 station. I checked the station and sure enough, it was freeze frame at best. (very obviously reception issue)
However, I had a perfect picture on the SD CBS channel, as well as my CBS-E feed. (I have a waiver, they didn't drop the channel when I upgraded)

Now there was a light rain at the time, and has been each time this has happened. However my HR-10 250 never lost reception, even in the worst of storms. And it seems the HR-20 isn't losing the normal sat feeds, it's only the mpeg-4 LNB that drops off. (and when this happens, even for 1 minute of the recording, it disappears from the LIST - unlike the HR10-250 which just split the recording in 2)

Can the dish be independantly tuned by LNB?

I also have a receptions problems in rain & even in overcast... but mine happens with almost.. all channels, mpeg4 or regular channels.
you'd get much better advice if you posted signal strengths from the different sattelites.
Not really....

It can be tweeked to improve the reception on some of the LNBs, but all LNBS are effected when you tweak the dish... you can't just adjust one lnb over another.

If you are getting signal issues with overcast and light rain, then you either have a dish alignment issue, or your connections are exposed to the wather.

I can have a pretty heave rainstorm and not lose signal...

I was looking at my signal strengths tonight, and the main satellites are about 92-95% while the others seem to be like 55%. I wonder if the need fine tuned like in the HR20 install video.

If it's just weak on the 99/103-deg satellites, then I agree that your dish probably needs to be tweaked to maximize the Ka-band signal.

Yep the 99 Was only about 56%. I'll have to check the 103.

Time to watch the at-9 install vid!

101 : 95%
110 : 85%
119 : 96%
99b : Never gives a reading on "Meters", induvidual shows 0, 0, 100, 0, 0, 0
103 : 99% - induvidual shows 80 or better on all but transponder 4, which is at 0.

Those readings look great. The "zeros" on the 99b and 103 are for transponder spot beams not aimed to you.

Doublecheck your coax cable connects. Make sure they're snug, tight, dry. Also, check the signal readings the next time you get the reception issues.
Just wanted to update on this.
I don't have a 25' ladder to get on the roof, so I had DTV send another installer out to check things. This guy, who happens to live just down the street, is the same guy who did my original install at the house, and he seems quite thorough.

He found that the installer who put the 5LNB dish up (who was new as an installer) didn't use the rubber boots, and didn't even screw the cables in all the way. He also said something about loose bolts on one of the LNBs. He replaced the lines running to the receiver and trashed the old.

Everything seems good so far, though we haven't had any rain yet. Still waiting on the latest software update as well, but hopefully the two things will cure most of my complaints since having this HR20 installed.
Good news. Thanks for the update.
