I am considering changing from Dish to Direct TV because of the great deals that Direct TV have at the moment. When installing the new satellite dish would they take down the Dish Newtwok's dish which I have installed.

Any advice and ideas would be appreciated.

It's possible, but yeah, I'm sure it would vary by installer. You could wait until they show up and ask or .. once you have your installation date scheduled, you can call the installation company and ask them what their policy is. It's possible that the best location for the DIRECTV dish is the same location as the DISH dish which should help, I would imagine.

If you've got more of a standard Dish Network dish (whatever that is) and with DirecTV would be getting the 5 LNB dish for MPEG4 HD, chances are the Dish Network dish mast would not be compatible and they would not just re-use it.

My experience with dish removal has been that they may remove the dish & mast, but they would leave the "foot" right where it is. That minimizes the possibility of leakage problems where the old dish was. They also tend to just leave what they do remove for the customer to dispose of. I never had a problem with that, but some people don't like it.

That's exactly what I did going from the 3-LNB to the AT-9. We left the old foot in place. Best advice ever.

Speaking of good deals,DirecTV inserted a flyer in our Sunday paper today. This deal is for new subscribers only. The deal is listed as follows:

"Sign up for NFL Sunday Ticket for $74.99/mo. for 4 months, and get the following:"
1. Premier Pack free for 4 months
2. Free installation
3. Free HD DVR receiver upgrade
4. Free DVR service upgrade
5. *Free 31 premium movie channels for 4 months ( HBO,Starz,Showtime,Cinemax ) I don't know why they listed the movie channels, since they are already included in the Premier Pack, but that was the way they worded the info in the flyer.*

The info in the flyer also states the following:
"Offers end 10/31/08 and are based on approved credit, credit card required.New customers only (lease required).Lease fee $4.99/mo. for second and each additional receiver.Just activate the Premier package when you purchase NFL Sunday Ticket."

Overall, that sounds like a good deal to me.There is also a toll-free number listed in the flyer to call for orders.

Generally, if the DirecTV dish can go where the DishNetwork dish is, most installers will take down the DN dish(es) for you. But if the DirecTV dish is going somewhere else, which is common due to the size and weight of the AU9 dish, then they'll usually leave the DN dish.

I did the opposite switch, from DirecTv to DISH. I had the Direct dish on a metal pole behind my house with a perfect unobstructed view of the entire south/ sw sky. The DISH installer took the Direct dish off and replaced it with the DISH dish. His labor was nil and he was grateful since my switch date was on a very cold day in February.

I switched back to DirecTV in February. I had Dish Network before and the guy that installed it was a (as he introduced himself) "official DirecTV Installer from Colorado".

I'm in Arkansas so maybe he was important or maybe he was just with a contract company that moved him - I have no idea. Anyway, they adamently REFUSED to take down my Dish Network equipment. I said I would pay him a little something extra if he could just take the dish part of it so it didn't show over my roof (it was on the back) but he still refused. However, when he installed my DirecTV he had to tilt the Dish Network satellite down so that it didn't interfere with my DTV service (which was installed almost parallell to the E* Sat). I was so confused and couldn't understand why he just couldn't take it down.

I dont know your situation but when I switched from Dish to Direct, the installer asked me if I wanted the E dish down and I told him yes. I had to return the LNB along with the HDDVR to E or I would have been charged for them.

Here's the issue:

If you cancel your Dish Network while under a commitment, Dish wants your LNB back. DirecTV techs sometimes take the Dish Network dishes, or break them during the removal process, or the customer *thinks* they did. Anyway, occasionally customers will call DirecTV, which gets them to the HSP, and they raise hell about their DN dish being gone. The HSP will over-react and instruct their installers not to *touch* any DN dishes. Of course, they don't say why, and many techs take that literally. Thus, you get techs who refuse to take them down, period.

Make sure you use the AAA deal, for savings of 240 dollars in addition to Directv's current deal. There's a thread explaining how to do it on this board, abut how to save 240 dollars. I signed up today and cancelled my Dish service.
