Currently, i have two hd dvrs and two hd tuners (dish network stuff). one hd dvr for wife and i, one hd dvr for kids. the two hd tuners are in bedrooms. i have two coax lines coming in from the roof to a central distribution point in the house - adding more would be a big problem...

i am trying to decide between the following configurations:

1) 1 hr34, 3 hd tuners (h25s?)
2) 2 hr24, 2 hd tuners (mimics what i have now)

which would you do? also, if you have a better idea, please post it.

If I were starting from scratch, I would go with option 1.
This will give you 5 tuners to record with.
Since you have 8 tuners, the dish should be a Slimline with SWM LNB (has one coax output).

hmm, ok so if i add 1 more hd tuner, that puts me over 8 tuners, now what? also, as a side note, this is all mostly due to the amc/dish issue.

To go over 8 tuners, you would need to go with a standard (not SWM) dish, which requires 4 coax to someplace - not necessarily your central location. At that someplace you would put a device know as an SWM16 which could then feed up to 16 tuners maximum. You would need 2 coax from the SWM16 to your central distribution point.
