EchoStar said that a federal court ruled in its favor concerning a patent infringement lawsuit filed against the satellite TV company by Gemstar TV Guide.
On motions for summary judgment, a judge with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina ruled that none of EchoStar's current products infringe any of the asserted patents, which cover Gemstar's interactive program guide technology. The judge requested additional information before reaching a final ruling regarding a low volume product which is no longer in production, EchoStar said.
In a statement, Gemstar-TV Guide said it believes the ruling is erroneous and intends to appeal the court order.
In late June, a judge with the International Trade Commission ruled against Gemstar TV Guide and its claims that EchoStar and three other companies infringed on Gemstar's IPG patents.
