At dishpointer.com I typed in my address, zoomed in and placed the desired location of my Slimline dish. I then selected my type of dish (DirecTV 5 LNB) and it shows a single green line extending from the dish location. I'd like to make sure my LOS for all satellites is clear. Can I do this by dragging the red obstacle checker right to left from 99W to 119W? Is this the full range I need for clear LOS to all satellites? See image below. Thanks.

Just select a 99W and then the 119W satellite. Too bad they can't display a pie-shaped wedge......:)

Here is another hint,

The KU sats are nine degrees apart..101 +9 = 110 +9 = 119
The KA sats are on either side of the 101 at 99 & 103.

(or did I get that backwards?)

Because the dish is ridged you move all with every adjustment.
If you take time to accurately set the elevation and tilt to what is published for your zip and tune the 101, with a little push west toward the 119 you will get a pretty close signal.

The line to the 101 will give you the rest but the signals are about 20 degrees apart with the 101 on the east (left) like books on a shelf when viewed from behind the dish.

What dishpointer doesn't help with is the height of objects in the line. You gotta look.

Joe,
The "obstacle checker" dishpointer added a while back lets you check line of site height(s). You move the red marker to find out the maximum height an obstacle can have without blocking the line of sight. Determining the actual height of the particular obstacle is another issue.

I'd check 99 and 119 also, if there's nothing to tall on those (and in between) he should be good.

Unless I misunderstood you.

You can also manually check each of the slots if need be (they are in the list).

99, 101, 103, 110, and 119 for the Slimline 5 (standard right now)

99, 101, 103 for the Slimline 3 (coming soon for markets that do not need locals from 110/119)

I'll take a look at that obstacle checker. I do remember seeing it while I was trying to print a pic of a site but didn't play with it at that time.

I note that sat photos do not show elevation well so a building next door on a hill.........aside from having an unknown number of stories.....also could be one floor higher than the target house. Stuff like that.

I'll play with it again on a known site address.

Thanks,

Joe
