From Nasdaq:

Walt Disney Co. (DIS) confirmed its plans to curb the advertising of what is known as junk food on its television and radio programs aimed at children by 2015 as it continues its efforts to promote healthier lifestyles.

The Wall Street Journal reported late Monday that Chief Executive Robert Iger would disclose the plan Tuesday with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Under Disney's new standards, all food and beverage products advertised, sponsored or promoted on Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Radio Disney, and Disney-owned online destinations will be required to meet Disney's nutrition guidelines by 2015.

By the end of the year, Disney will also introduce "Mickey Check," an icon that will appear on nutritious licensed foods products, recipes on Disney.com and Family.com, and menu items at Disney's Parks and Resorts.

I was thinking the same thing when I first saw the article.

But wait, we can not forget commercials for Hover Round and those companies pitching catheters
I saw the Hover Round for the first time the other day, but yeah, I've seen the catheters a billion times. :(

All I know is that I'm glad I have a DVR, because I simply could not deal with all the prescription drugs commercials on TV. I'd LOVE for a media company to ban them, but the amount of advertising money they'd lose would be far more substantial than the amount of money that Disney is losing by doing this.

I'm glad to hear this! Our youth is only getting heavier.

As for the money they will lose, I'm sure it will be made up by companies paying for their "Mickey Stamp" on all of their "nutritious" foods... that we will find out cause cancer in about 10 years.

Except... in the threads where we have been discussing DVRs and commercial skipping... most everyone seems to think that "nobody watches commercials" anymore... so how is cutting some sponsors going to make a difference if "nobody" watches commercials?
Kids watch them when the parents aren't with them. It's the only way they can learn right from wrong.

I fast forward through commercials. I SEE what they are advertising, and if it's anything I care about, I'll stop and watch it.

You forgot the meaning of life (having the newest/coolest toy), Justin Bieber, asking the doctor for drugs is a good way of getting them, Kidz Bop, and of course, to always have your parent's permission when using their credit card to buy that item that's only $10, but costs an additional $20 in shipping and handling fees! ;)

Parents that use the TV as a babysitter and are not aware of what their kids watch are doing more harm than the commercials are doing...
My parents were completely unaware what I was watching when I was young and I turned out just fine. :jump3:
