I am a new subscriber and overall very happy with the service/equipment so far.

I do have a question about the DNS feeds from NY. I am in an area that is eligible to get the feeds from NY.....good so far. In my installation, I have 1 HD-DVR and 3 SD receivers. I was looking at my first statement online, and it seems I am getting charged $1.99 each for both the SD and HD versions of ABC, NBC, CBS & FOX. I was under the impression that if I subscribed to HD (which I do at 9.99/month) that I would automatically get HD versions of channels I subscribed to.

If this is the way it is, and I only want to pay for 1 set of channels, I would have to go with the SD feeds so I can get them on all 4 of my receivers. Is this correct?

Thanks

My HD DNS is included at 0.00 on my bill, but DNS is a very touchy subject. Unless the money is a big deal to you I wouldn't stir the pot. Lots of mistakes are made with DNS, usually resulting in the customer losing them and running into a lot of brick walls in trying to get them back.

HD DNS works a little different. If you are eligible to receive any of these channels you would only get HD from your time zone or the immediate adjacent one. That is, Central and East get NY HD; Mountain and Pacific get LA HD.:)

Well, you could exchange the 3 SD boxes for HD ones, and only use the SD outputs. Except for a possible conversion cost I think the monthly box cost is the same, and you could save $8 in DNS fees.

Today i called to upgrade to the NY HD feeds,i started to ask the CSR rep. if i would loose the SD LA feeds. He interupted me and said"You will continue to receive the same programming you're now receiving plus the HD feeds of both".I knew he was wrong that i would get just the east coast feeds but didn't say anything.I have noticed that the NY HD feeds have been added and LA HD feeds are showing channel not purchased.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. From ready through the forums here, it seems that the DNS eligibility situation is a topic of great debate.

$7.96 for the 4 hd channels is not a huge deal per month, but a little annoying as I was advised otherwise when I signed up. Also, had I know about getting the HD receivers in all rooms would have removed the problem of duplicates, I could have gone that path. I have no idea what the conversion/upgrade cost is to go to the HD receivers, but I can't see it being cheap as I have only had the equipment 2 days, and I didn't pay a penny for equipment/installation.

ADDED:
I spoke with Customer Service and they confirmed the charges for the HD feeds...something he mentioned they started doing a year or so ago. To upgrade to HD receivers in the 3 other locations would cost $99 each, so not really worth doing. Something I am just going to have to accept. The chances of me getting HD (or even SD) locals in the near future is very slim as I am in Pocahontas County, WV. According to the installer there is a 'blanket' waiver for this County due to the remote location etc. With Dish, we used to get the Roanoke, VA locals...which weren't exactly local, but almost. We only had SD with them and the picture quality was terrible...at least the SD feeds from NY seem ok.
