Hello all.

I live in a large MDU, and don't have the best relationship with my reseller, since they wanted to charge me 150 a box to "install" my already active D* service when I moved in.

I currently have an HR20 -700 , with both inputs and.
an old series 2 DirecTivo which has one input.

a single satellite line comes out of my wall and goes into an
AHFS-2dse splitter.

from the splitter, one line goes directly into my old DTivo, and the other goes into an
SCD-4P52W (which I think is a destacker/multiswitch combo device?)

from the SCD-4P52W both outs go to my HR20 -700 .

So I have 2 receivers, and only one destacker which feeds both inputs on my HR20 -700.

I would like to replace my Old DTivo with an HR21 -700 from costco.

Is there a way I can use the SCD-4P52W that I have to feed 2 inputs for both a
HR20 -700 and a NEW HR21 -700 ?

If not can I buy another SCD-4P52W and place it in parallel with the first?

Finally, is there a cheaper price for SCD-4P52W than $150... I really dont want to buy one since they may not be super useful to me when I move in a year or so.

Id like to take the line in my apartment and my lone destacker and feed 2 HD-DVR units 2 lines each.

Can I just use 2x4 multiswitch after my destacker to get 4 useable lines? I did try this, but the HR21 was not able to complete a software download and was missing a bunch of channels on initial setup when I tried this.

I dont know what type of dish my building has, but the tech that did come to do the intitial setup chose 3LNB oval for the setup of my HR20, and that seems to work perfectly.

Can someone recommend a cheap solution? If necessary I am willing to settle for 2 inputs to the HR20 and just 1 for the HR21 since I wont be doing much recording. I am assuming I cannot plug a stacked signal into the HR21. Obviously I would like all the channels HD etc..

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure on the stacker but a 3*4 switch won't work since it will only pass the signals from the 101.

You should talk to your MDU provider though since if you do indeed have the 3LNB dish you might be without HD sooner rather then later.

I am getting HD now on my HR20 box. I was just listing what I could see from the dish setup menu(oval 3lnb). Im not well versed, so I dont understand too much about which dishes/satellites correspond to what.

If its not possible for me to get HD channels with out the 5lnb dish, then Im sure I made a mistake somewhere in seeing settings.

All I can say is I am getting all the HD channels now on my HR20, and Id like to do the same on my new box as well, I just dont want to throw money at parts I dont understand and am not sure that they would solve my problem.

are you just getting the HD on channels 70-100 or also the "new" HD let's say CNNHD on 202, FOODHD on 213? That is the easiest way to see. Also go through the setup and select 5LNB. It will give you 'failed' messages if it doesn't find the "new" birds.
Sorry to steer things away from your original question. i am sure some of the more MDU trained guys will get you some answers on that soon.

Yup. You'll need to work with your MDU provider to upgrade the system to MFH-2. This will soon be the only way to recieve HD programming. It will consist of new 5LNB dish, SWM switches and SWM compatible IRDs.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I will see if i can get them to "loan" me a destacker until they do their upgrade, or just suck it up in the mean time.

In any case , thanks all for the feedback, you helped me not waste money on a destacker.
