The 512 receiver is the replacement receiver for the 508. You can use the 508 are long as it is operational. The 5.4, 6.4, and 20.x remotes are compatible with the 508 reciever. Thanks.

I have two remotes for this 508 receiver, the dog chewed on the good one, and the other never seem to work correctly. So, I'm needing to buy one to use. There's plenty on ebay for about $12.00 to $20.00, but there is that old "lingering" question. When will Dish stop signal on the PVR 508 receiver? I still use the TV/PVR 508 receiver by the controls on the 508 receiver to get the channels, and would continue to so if Dish is to drop this receiver soon, or buy the remote if Dish continues to use the 508 for some time yet.
Anyone know the status on the PVR 508 on how long it will be used?
I will keep the 508 as though it was a person, and when life ends... also on the 508 I will bury it, as I own it...not a lease one. This 508 is not "activated, but I still receive programming....the free channels and those for previews by Dish.boba said:Why not just ask Ray C to upgrade you to the 512. They are supposed to replace failing receivers and a non functioning remote seems like it would make it nonfunctional.
