Do the SWM8 And Slimline 3 play nice?

1076 Views 15 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  bruinfever
I have ordered an SWM8 from SolidSignal for my upcoming D* install (this Saturday) and I think I have all of my bases covered for a smooth install, however, I had one think I just thought up. Has anybody used a SWM8 with a Slimline3?

I would venture there is a chance that is what the installer could bring since I don't require internationals and my locals are currently on 72.5 (rumored to be migrating to 99) so I don't need 110 or 119.

Thanks.

No one has tried it, but it shouldn't work.

Just to clarify, are you saying you would expect it to fail?

Yes, it should fail. Unless there is some kind of special bypass mode we haven't heard of in the SWMline, it shouldn't work, since SWM functionality is not stackable (meaning you can't connect the output of one to the input of another).

Ah, we've got our wires crossed here. I am not talking about the SWMline, I am talking about the Slimline3 (99,101,103 only).
won't work..
SWMLine (both the 3 and 5) have no "standard" outputs.. SWM8 needs the 4 separate lines from a standard dish..

I'm wondering about the Slimline3 (non-SWM), not the SWMline.

??
there are IIRC:
old 3lnb
slimline (5lnb without SWM)
SWMLine (5lnb with SWM built in)
and SWMline3 (new 3lnb with SWM)

I believe there is also a Slimline3 (like a 5-lnb but missing the 110 and 119 lnbs). I don't think the SWMline3 has even been released yet.

See here: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=133958&highlight=slimline3

Actually, that link answers my question. It says right in it that it is compatible with the the SWM8.
The current slimline 3 is not a SWM lnb. That is likely in the future but doesn't exist yet.

The Slimline 3 should work just fine with a SWM8. Obviously won't be able to get 110/119 but should work fine with the correct dish selected during setup it should be fine. Theoretically you could use a SWM with a dual lnb dish and it would work but only provide the SD channels.
somehow I missed that one (too many names :) ).. if it has the four output lines it should work fine.. I had my swm5 on the old 3lnb for a while before I got the 5lnb..
wow. Learn something new every day. I did not know there was a non-SWM slimline 3.

It definitely should work just like a slimline5 would.

I didn't know there WAS an SWM Slimline-3!? Where do they sell them?

They don't sell any SWMlines just yet. But I thought the installs of slimline3s were SWMline3s, no?
The SL3S, the SWMline 3 is not available yet. Rumored and expected, that is all.

The SL3, the Slimline is compatible with SWM8, WB68, and WB616 and is just now becoming available in limited markets that do not get their SD locals from 110 or 119.

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for the clarification Tom....
