Does 0x108 Negate the Need for Phone Connection?

The H20's ethernet port is active under release 0x108. I wonder if, now, the network port can be used in place of the analog phone connection.

I've never had a phone line connected to mine anyhow. Is it required?

Typically only if you order a lot of PPV movies :)
If you have a phone line connected you can have Caller ID pop up on the screen.
As of right now... the network connection does NOT communicate with any DirecTV servers.

The only thing it does out side your home network, is send a "ping" to www.directv.com to see if it can see the outside world.
The phone line isn't required like on the Tivo's? It will still record series links and retain full functionallity?

If so that is awesome, will save me like $30.00 a month for the phone line.

Thanks,

Toby
No, it is not "required" like it was for the TiVos.

It fully utilizes the entire system, if the phone line isn't there.

However... per the "contract" with DirecTV, you will have it hooked up to a phone line.... so they could (if they re-implement it), disable packages/mirrored boxes, ect... if you do not have a phone line.

Plus you won't be able to do PPV via remote, without a phone line.
yeah, but I never order ppv via remote cause I want it on all tv's when I order it so I do it online. Thanks for the info though.
