My plan was to get two HD-DVRs and two regular non-DVR receivers when I signed up but somebody told me a DVR counts as two receivers and therefore I could only have two per dish. Is that true? What do I do if I want to follow my plan? Do I need two dishes? If so, does it cost more to install two dishes and/or do I have to pay more monthly programming fees? I know many of you must have more than two televisions and I've never seen a house with more than one dish so please let me know. Thanks.

DVR's have 2 receivers and are counted that way, but there isn't any reason you cant have what you want.

You will need a switch connected to the dish which will allow you to have more than 4 tuners. A typical switch might be what is known as a "6x8" which allows for up to 8 tuners to be serviced.

Don't sweat it, place your order and they will do the rest, keep in mind that unless you live in one of the areas where the new "single wire" system is being deployed that a dvr requires 2 lines connected to it to use both tuners.

My home has 2 dvr's and 4 standard tuners.

You will pay one DVR fee per household and one leasing or mirroring fee for each receiver (you will not pay two mirroring fees for a DVR). However the DVR does count as two tuners, and one way or another your dish can support only four tuners. However, if you want more than that you just need a multiswitch and I think there is no limit to what you can do with that. When you get your installation, make sure they know how many receivers you're getting and the installer should bring a multiswitch.

Regardless of technical issues you might have a hard time placing an initial order for that many DVRs. You might have to start with less and upgrade slowly.

Do these DVRs network yet? Can they watch recorded shows recorded on other boxes in the house, assuming they are connected by ethernet. Better yet if DTV wants to save money, why don't the H20 H21 play shows recorded on an HR21. I mean they remove OTA from the HR21 to say 100 bucks, but they could save 200 buck for each case where a single DVR with a content capable H20 could work.

Elephanthead, you have a great idea... and I wouldn't be surprised if you really liked the future of DIRECTV's services. :)

More receivers=more mirroring fees

Networking would be a neat feature, but reliable recording and playback are MUCH more important.

Please D*, correct the stability and basic functionality issues before adding any more bells and whistles.
