The other possibility is you had your home system upgraded to SWM, and the receiver is set for SWM while the cabin is still using the legacy type dish, in which case, you need to re-run satellite setup every time you move the receiver.
It can't be SWM settings for him as he watched TV two hours before it failed to provide a signal.

I'm going with squirrel damage, you would not believe what they gnawed in my shed out back. By the time they finished chewing on a wood lamp and lampshade there about 1/3 of the lamps wood left. Paper leaf bags left over from the previous year shreds were left. Those tree rats have strong teeth.
