I found that when RCA jacks were plugged into the R15 audio outs, the optical output on the r15 would only do regular stereo, but when I unplugged the RCA cables from the r15 audio, the optical output would do the full DD when a program offered it.

Does the HR20 have the same issue/quirk.

I'll be recieving my HR20 right after the new year.

I have had the red/white cables connected since day one.
And I get the full 5.1 sound via optical when it is avaialble.

But I don't remember that being an issue with the R15...
Is it possibel your Amp is listenting first to the red/white inputs, then optical?

I just hooked up the HR20 with both optical and RCA and as long as I am on the right input on the receiver I get real 5.1 according to the receiver.

We had a couple threads on this in the r15 side. The RCA audio didn't even need to be connected to the reciever, just plugged in the r15.

Good to know its not the same with the H20 though.
