The HR10 does two "daily" phone calls
1) To DirecTV Servers for PPV Billing
2) To "DirecTV/TiVo" Servers to update viewing habits, and download software upgardes. (Note some upgrades are sent via SAT, but they are authorized by that 2nd phone call)
The HR20 only does #1 above
The PPV Billing Update.
All updates are via SAT and authorized by the SAT.
