I have a brand new HR 20 that I just picked up from Best Buy. I was told to do this by the DirecTV supervisor because he said it will speed up my installation date.

My question is can I just disconnect the existing DirecTV set top box and connect my new HR20 HD DVR and will it work? I know I can disconnect/connect but will it work and give me a HD signal? Will it just give me a regular SD signal until they swap out my 3 LNB dish with the new 5 LNB dish?

You'll get all of the national HD content without a new dish. It is any HD LIL or HD RSNs that will have to wait for a behemoth dish.

I've called on Dec 27 and set up installation for the new dish for Jan 29 (wow, busy time of year). So if I call and activate the new box, will that trigger anything in their system that will interfere with that appointment?

It doesn't really matter what it does to your antenna install date if they ding you $150 for failure to activate within 30 days.

I just hooked up my new HR 20 DVR, I have the resolution set to native, but the receiver format indicator stays on 480p regardless of the programming. If I change to another format, it always returns to 480p with the next channel change. I would like the receiver to automatically switch between formats as I change channels. What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated.
