Don't understand

I just don't understand why D can have the local DMA in Mankato MN and E can not. Does anyone have any ideas. D has had them since last March. An OTA is terrible unless you are 50' in the air.

E* is missing 35 markets. D* is missing 80. Which ones they choose to carry is up to the carrier. There are only 33 markets (per E*) that are not covered by E* or D*,
So, if the local DMA says it is alright for D to have the area, why would E push all of their customers to get ota instead of launching it on satellite?
They can't fill short markets anyways. Not sure of the situation in Mankato but in Presque Isle there is only one station and even if Dish could provide it they could not provide the other 4 networks.
D went with the local cbs affiliate and everything else came out of the twin cities
and thats why E* cant do Mankato right now (I'm just up the road from you in Shakopee) :)

since the rest of the stations would be sig. viewed, and sv is part of "distants" E* cant offer them. Legally Mankato could get NBC & Fox (until yesterday)

Originally it was due to no room on the spotbeams. They had to shoehorn KAWB (the PBS from Brainerd) onto a spotbeam just to put all Mpls on one dish. The spotbeam (2,8,10) had alot of channels on it
Mpls
Duluth
Sioux Falls
Cedar Rapids
Des Moines
Omaha

Duluth was split on all 3 (3 on 2, 2 on 8, 1 on 10)

When they put up E10 early spring, now there is room on the spotbeam with Mpls (room for 3 channels )

but now due to the SV/distants issue Mankato may be a while
(on a OT note, I love how KEYC says "the one to watch for local news"...umm, KEYC...you're the ONLY option for local news...unless something big happens then the Mpls stations rush down there)

And there is just so much going on in the Mankato area to broadcast. That is why I waste so much gas trying to find fake addresses. I went for an eighty mile road trip the other day just to find a wide open corn field. When the customer finally called in to dish wondering where I was dish gave them my #. When I ask him where the heck he lives it was only 4 blocks from my home. I can see this happening alot in the near future.
In the last week we have gotten over a hundred OTA jobs in the 4 county area that is affected in southern MN. Unless you are at least 40' in the air all they get is KEYC. This results in very unhappy customers. There has already been serveral people switching to D in the past week. I have had 2 customers tell me that they already have an ota but the dish reps told them that the antenna that we would install would enable them to record on their 625.

so true. I can get KEYC with my antenna and most of the news some nights is about the Twin Cities

Ya know, I understand where they are coming from, But please answer your phone and please list a cell #, gas ain't cheap when you drive 150-250 miles a day 7 days a week.

It all depends which side of the valley and hills they are on. With the river running thru there sure throws a curve. but if everything is right a few of them can get everything. Unfortunatly most are not willing to invest in a tower and I'm getting old enough to start respecting heights. therefore they can only get keyc. Unless you live in lower kato, the tower is on top of that hill and the signal blows right over. I had an ota install down there a couple of years ago, what a waste of time for everyone.

If I remember right I think I saw where Direct was offering $150 for switching. Can't say that I blame any customer for switching even if they are still in contract.
