Double Banner Menu on HR34

I have a new HR34 that is forcing the banner menu to appear two or three times each time I change the channel. If I change the channel and do nothing, the menu will appear, stay for whatever time frame I have it set to (4 secs), then disappear for a second, only to reappear for an additional 4 seconds. If I change the channel and immediately hit Exit, the menu closes and instantly reopens, then proceeds to open twice more as described above. This only happens on the HR34, my other 3 boxes (non-DVR HD receivers) operate correctly. I spoke with tech support and they told me that engineering would write a patch and send it to the receiver in about 48 hours. I hope this resolves it but I am skeptical. This is exactly why there should be a disable option in the menu setup. That menu takes up about 30% of the screen and it is useless. When it keeps popping up and obstructing the picture, it's even worse. Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, has DTV been able to resolve it?

Is the info button stuck on the remote?

Have you tried doing a menu restart?

There is almost no chance of DIRECTV writing a patch for your receiver and sending it to you.
I'm sorry rtisby, the CSR simply lied to you. Mr. Kocourek is right, no one is going to write a patch just for you. I would start with rebooting the receiver and go from thee.

I have rebooted / reset several times and also reloaded software all without resolution. This was just installed on 1/16/12, is there a time frame for swapping out a box without a penalty or cost? I believe it is a software issue that is probably unique to the HR34 but would like to rule out the box itself. I'd really like to know if anyone else is having this issue. Anybody out there have an HR34 that's operating normally?

There is a 90 day time frame, but even a leased receiver will be replaced after that, without penalty [increasing commitment] and without the protection plan, it's only the cost of shipping.

It may be software [most likely], but even a software bug, affects different hardware differently, so getting this one swapped may have it go away [or not].
Tried it on mine and exit takes the crappy banner off. It does not come back on. I really did not notice it much because I have the native on and it takes many seconds of negotiation on the HDMI to get picture when changing channels. So the banner many times does not show on the screen at all, and most times for just a second. I got used to the HDMI negotiations on the Series 3 TiVos. Would much rather have a thousand dollar TV do any signal processing than a cheap DVR.

In any case I absolutely agree that no banner at all would be ideal. It is pretty much useless anyway. And four seconds is way too 1 .................. 2....................3........................4............................ long.
