In a nutshell,
DishPlayers are models 7100 and 7200. Non DP E* PVRs are 501, 508 and 721.
DP has UI provided through WebTV software. 501/508/721 are E* provided. They provide OpenTV functionality.
DP w/o a self HD upgrade provide 5 hrs (7100) and 9 hrs (7200) or record time. 501/508 cannot be upgraded (at least no one has) and they provide 35 hrs (501) and about 60 hrs (508) of record time.
If you do not have the DP PVR deal, it is 9.99 a month for PVR features. On the 501/508/721 PVR is included in the receivver price.
