Two words.... HOLY CRAP!

By far, one of the best Who's since it's been back on SciFi. Was this the season finale or is there one more next week?

I guess it will be explained how the Doctor regenerated and stayed looking the same. Best one ever. Looks to be one of the best seasons ever. Too bad the show will be on a hiatis for a year or two. Were will I go to get my Doctor Who fix!! LOL
I saw the preview for the finale that SF ran and THEY GAVE MOST OF THE STORY AWAY!!!

I am SO glad I got my copy from the net right after the BBC aird it. There was a week of intense speculation about how they were going to work theit way out of the regeneration problem OR, people wondered, did they pull off the most top-secret cast change in the history of UKTV?
This was a great episode, from the opening scene to the opening credits with all of the companions and series leads for Torchwood and Sarah Jane listed ...

I can't wait for the conclusion next week! For one thing, how do Gwen and Ianto survive at Torchwood Cardiff, with Daleks right in front of them? How does Sarah Jane survive with Daleks in front of her?

BTW, I'll ask a mod to rename this thread to add "Part 1" and the OAD 07/25/08 ...

To be accurate, next week is part 2, but the episode title is "Journey's End".

This is just a guess not a spoiler. But when that one Dalek shot at the Doctor and was shot by Jack the main Dalek force would have recognized the Doctor. In which case every Dalek in England would drop everything and rush there.
Just WOW! Wow!

Okay, so who got a little excited seeing Rose carrying that big gun? I loved how she had to work the action in order to fire it.

So, what's this about a year or two hiatus? I don't know if I can wait that long.

Also, a little OT, but was wondering if anyone knew why Billie Piper and Freema Agyeman actually left the show? Obviously, it wasn't due to bad feelings as both have now recurred their roles. Did they each move on to other shows over in the UK?

Well, I don't know about Freema, but Bille went off to become a call girl. ;)

Will it be in HD ?
Doctor Who is not filmed for HD. It is SD letterboxed. Pretty much DVD quality. Torchwood, OTOH, is HD.

Doctor Who is shot in 720p 16:9 Picture format, Torchwood is shot in 1080p 16:9 Picture format for broadcast as HD in the UK. It's shown as letterbox here in the US.

No. If it were shot in 720p, then it would (by definition) be an HD production.

Doctor Who is shot in something like 576i, which is higher than the US 480i for SD but it is most definately not shot in HD. It is, as you note, shot in widescreen... but definately not HD.

Actually, I do remember that now, but had forgotten when I wrote the post. I did find out that Freema has all been written out of Torchwood now, too. She apparently agreed to star in a Law & Order spin-off for a British TV channel that is a competitor of BBC, so we won't be seeing her in future seasons (now that's a show I'd like to see).

I also read that next year all we are going to get is 4 or 5 one hour specials of Doctor Who as a bridge until the next season. Phooey!

From the Wikipedia Doctor Who site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who

Picture format:
405-line black & white (1963-1967)
625-line black & white (1968-1969)
PAL 625-line colour (1970-1989)
720x576 16:9 (2005-2008)

Which would put the UK broadcast of Doctor Who at about the same as a DVD. A little better than SD but only about the same as EDTV.
This season has been great. The last two episodes have been the best! Can't wait for the last one!
