I have read here of people having trouble with their HR20 when the available space gets low, so two questions:

1. How much "available" space should I keep in order to avoid problems?

2. Since the % or "Available" space is only the part that is not being used (it does not count the programs which are marked as "Keep until drive full" as "available"), does is matter if I have a low percentage of "available" if most of the drive usage is programs marked as "keep until full"? In other words, will it delete those programs before it becomes unstable due to lack or drive space?

Alternatively, is there really no problem with the amount of drive space left and therefore I'm worrying about nothing?

In theory, you could run with a very low percentage all the time so long as there are things that can be deleted automatically. In practice on the HR20...well lets hope all the problems are gone this week...

I've had relatively few (compared to these posts) problems with the HR20. I ran it for about two weeks with the below 10% warning (too much to record during sweeps and below-normal viewing time), and had no discernible problems as a result. I even brought it to zero; it was recording two programs at the time, both of which stopped recording at the same time, about 15 minutes short. I was watching one of the shows live, and there were no ill effects (other than missing the end of the other recording).

It's back up to 20% available now, & I'm getting an Iomega 500 esata.

There's a warning? I didn't even know. I've never been below 39%, and most of that is available to delete as needed.

When you go to List, you get a pop-up warning you that you're below 10% available. You have to click to proceed before you can get to My VOD or To Do.
