If you are having caller ID problems PLEASE switch out the DSL filter on that line with a new one.... My only complaint for the HR20 has been lack of functional caller ID, an advertized feature. I decided to try a new filter on my line since it was not working anyway and what did I have to lose....well it works now everytime!!! Please keep in mind if I hooked up a phone it would read caller ID just fine but never (maybe once out of 50 times) Work.
So here is another variable for you all to try!!!

Wish it were that simple for me. I have tried multiple lines (one with DSL, one without) and neither work. I've gone directly to the TELCO jack - still no go. CallerID works on the phone and worked on the HR10 (via hack) that was replaced.

This is an HR20 problem, and it could be software or hardware - don't know. I just know it doesn't work. If it never works, I'll be cool with that, but it would be nice.

I thought this wasn't too networky (and therefore off-topic for this forum).

Each HR20, etc, added counts as a phone, and the following link suggests a wiring alternative for dsl filters that helped a friend of mine (not related to HR20 use). Disclaimers, etc, this isn't advertising directly or indirectly for me or any of my friends. (Assume that's a rule here....)

The crux is that more than 5 or 6 phones with individual filters degrades things.

While changing DSL line filters I realized that the connections were reversed. With the DSL filter plugged directly into the back of the HR20, it is 'reversed'. Look on the filter and see where it is marked. LINE and PHONE should be the typical markings. The end with the cable and male connector will be marked LINE, and should be plugged into the wall RJ45 connector. I had mine connected in such a way that the LINE cord was plugged into the back of my HR20.
When I switched the filter around, plugging it into the wall first and then running the extension line to the HR20, and called the house with my cellphone, it worked FIRST time. This is the first time Caller ID has worked on my HR20 since day one.
