I have had the CCP for the past year. I'm coming up for renewal.
I never needed to use it. Has anyone used it and were you satisfied? I have a HD DVR and a non recording HD Receiver which are only used by 2 adults. It's $5.99 a month. Am I wasting money?

I think the question you have to ask yourself is "Am I willing to do the work myself and pay for the parts and/or labor if something happens?"

For me the answer to that question is "No." For you it may be different. I have two HD DVRs that have both needed replacing at least once. If the dish or wiring ever fail that will be covered too. It's just not worth it to me to self-insure.

It's called the Protection Plan, btw. :) Not sure if CCP was its old name (or the name of a former Soviet Empire... oh wait that was CCCP  ).

If a leased HR** dies, won't it be replaced, regardless of whether or not you're sub'd to the protection plan?
Yes a leased receiver would be replaced without the protection plan. However they do charge $19.95 S&H.

+ lately they have been sending out a tech to do a service call to make sure it's broken and the problem isn't user error. Without the PP you would have to pay the service call fee which is about $80.

I have PP.

Here's the cliff notes version:

With the Protection Plan, you have a contract which obligates DirecTV to repair or replace any DirecTV-installed part of their system (including receivers, dishes, and multiswitches) at no additional cost or obligation to you. The Protection Plan also covers dish realignment.

Without the Protection Plan, DirecTV is under no obligation to repair or replace receivers, dishes, etc. Your cost for repair or replacement is based on whatever prices DirecTV decides to charge. Currently, DirecTV's prices seem to be as follows:

  • Defective leased receivers are replaced for $20 (unclear if there is a commitment renewal with this).
  • Defective owned receivers are replaced either at full cost or replaced with a leased receiver for $20 plus a commitment renewal.
  • Service calls are $80. Service calls may be required before a defective receiver is replaced.
  • Some customers may be eligible for a discounted service call for $20 if they sign up for the Protection Plan for one year.

Those prices are currently unpublished and subject to change at any time without notice.
