I just bought a DTVpal and it works great except for one thing, the time is exactly 20 minutes ahead. The time zone is correctly set to Eastern and DST observed is set to yes. I even tried changing it to other time zones and they are also 20 minutes off (from the time in that zone). I don't see any other options for setting the time.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Moderators: I assume this is the place for discussing the DTVpal because it is a E* OTA receiver. Please move this post if you think otherwise.

Your problem is that the station you have tuned in is sending the incorect time on their signal. You need to call that station and have them correct it.

That is incorrect.

The info is carried in the PSIP on ALL digital channels.
On the digital tuners I use, there is a preference in the setup asking for designation of the PBS channel so to set up the time and to verify the info. I may have the info part incorrect, but from what I read, the date and time is carried by the PBS station.

+1

All channels have "their" time encoded in the PSIP.

Not everyone can receive a PBS station OTA.

I'm trying to figure out which station has the incorrect time. I have noticed that sometimes the time is correct. To test this, I:
*Tune to a channel,
*Unplug the power
*Wait 30 seconds
*Plug it back in
*Let it download the guide data
*Check the time.

Here are my results:

WMAR - 22 minutes ahead
WBAL - less than 1 minute ahead
WJZ - 22 minutes ahead
WUTB - 22 minutes ahead
WBAL (again) - 22 minutes ahead

It doesn't seem like that tuning to a given channel & resetting the box has any consistent affect because I tried WBAL twice with different results. I'll try to call and see if the tech support knows anything about this.

I just called the tech support line and they said that one of my stations is putting out the wrong time (which I figured) but couldn't tell me how to figure out which station is the problem.

I removed the first channel on the list (WMAR Ch 2) thinking it might be the culprit but it still gave the wrong time.

Is anyone else in the Baltimore area having the same problem?

JSK,

Find a neighbor or friend with a TV with a digital tuner. Many sets display the time when you change channels and look at the PSIP data from that channel to display the time. I'm not sure which signal the DTVPal looks at to display the time but I don't think that it is "grabbed" each time you change channels. The way some boxes work is that they set the time when you do a channel scan. The first station that is found is the one that the time is set from (not sure if the DTVPal does that). Remember, the FIRST station that the box finds is the lowest number digital channel. That is not 2.1 unless your ch. 2 is the lowest number DIGITAL station in your area.

There has been a lot of angst spouted at Dish about the "Time" issue and the "Timer" issue over in the AVS forum. This time thing seems to be connected to the time code output by the local CBS station which it seems that the DVPal keys on this one station for its time code. I'm not sure why that is, but most folks over on the AVS seem to want to blame E* and the software in the DVPal for this failure when it is the broadcast station that is the apparent culprit.
