Situation: TV has two HDMI inputs. Both DVD & DirecTV receiver have HDMI outputs.

Is it correct that there should be no connection between the DVD & receiver? Run seperate HDMI cables to the TV? Would a premium sound system require a third wire from the TV to the sound system?

Yea depending on your setup run one hdmi from the d* reciever to your tv on hdmi (input)1

Rund another hdmi cord from your hddvd player to your tv on hdmi (input) 2

Than run the digital audio out from the d*reciever to your sound system and I think you would bneed another digital audio out from the hddvd player to the sound system

Hope this helped you

-enjoy the holiday-

** if your tv had digital audio output I would run that to your sound system and that should work fine for you.

From other posts I have seen it appears that some TVs only output the digital sound from the internal tuner, so running directly from the receiver and DVD is probably best.

None of that says anything about "digital audio output".
I couldn't pick anything out either; however, to me, some of those terms are kind of mumbo-jumbo. :p

It is a JVC 40" 1080p LCD model #LT-40FH97.
