I'm a DirecTV newbie, scratching my head over something.

Today, I was watching the Cowboys vs. Texans game on Superfan channel 719 (HD), while the game was recording. I was watching the game via chase playback, but at the moment when the game went off the air, the following disaster took place: the recording stopped, my DVR suddenly showed a black screen, came up with the "channel not purchased" message, and erased my recording of the game.

When I called DirecTV, they told me the game was blacked out on Superfan, because the local CBS station was showing it. That's true; it was being shown locally. But was this a blackout, or some kind of hardware malfunction? I was taping and watching the game on 719 for about 3 hours without incident. Moreover, last week, I watched the Cowboys vs. Eagles on Superfan, even though it was showing on the local Fox station. No problems with that one.

The facts just don't quite add up here. Do I have a problem with my box? Are blackouts inconsistent? Or is something else going on?

I'd appreciate any insight from someone who may have seen similar behavior.

Thanks.

BTW: I'm using the HR20, with Sunday Ticket, and Superfan subscriptions.

There have been lots of issues with sports subscriptions. Normally a game played on your local TV is blacked out on the Sunday Ticket channels. I'm not sure why yours worked although some of the HD channels have not been blacked out when on your local channel.

To be safe though, if the game is on your local network channels, record that version.

Oh you're not alone on tihs type of problem. Please also see similar thread #66856 (f"New recordings deleted with prompting"):

Random deletes of recorded sports programming immediately after the recording/event has finished. No rhyme, reason, or explanation for the delete.

Unacceptable! D*TV needs to address immediately...!
