Curious, how it works?

On an HR24 unit is the signal decrypted before stored on the hard drive? Also currently I only have one tuner in use with only one coaxial cable. Can I split the one coaxial into two so that both tuners can be used?

It's stored on the drive encrypted, it can't be played back on a different DVR, even if it's on an external hard drive. If you get a SWM system, only one coax is needed to go to the DVR, the second connector is unused. Otherwise, two lines have to come in from the dish.
The one line cannot be split, you'll need either a SWM set up or use a WB68 multiswitch with the four lines from the dish connected to it and then two from the WB68 to the HR24. You'll also need BBCs connected.
Or simply have two lines from the dish to the DVR, one to each input. You don't need the multiswitch unless you have a need for more than four tuner connections total in your house.
