Has anyone that has been grandfathered in for Free DVR Service with Premier gotten this in writing? In the form of an email or in the notes of the account that have been read back to you stating that you are grandfathered?

In April of 2008 I was still getting DVR service for free, however, DTV wanted to swap my HR10-250 with the HR20 so I could get the new HD channels. It was a free offer but unfortunately my account was tied to the HR10-250 so once that was replaced no more grandfathering of free DVR Service. So much for a free upgrade!!

So I emailed DTV in April 2008 and a manager from the corporate offices called me and stated he would put me back to free with no time limitations on the offer. Starting today I am being billed for DVR Service again (very long story but I didn't change any services) and the CSR said the best they could do was 12 months for free and that no one is grandfathered (3 different Retiontion reps told me this). I'm thinking that eveyone that has been told they have been grandfathered simply got it for 6 or 12 months for free as the reps just tell you whatever you want to hear to get you off the phone. In other words yes you are grandfathered while they actually put you in for 6-12 knowing they won't have to deal with you when you call back in 6-12 months.

I'm going through email now and trying to get the same guy to call me that I spoke to this past April to find out what happened and this time I am going to get it in writing that I am grandfathered in if I can. However, I am not holding my breath as DTV has worn me down and I'm ready to give up

Hrm, I am grandfathered TC+ for my package and even went through an HD upgrade with it just fine. Dont exactly know why swapping the HR10 lead you to loose your grandfathered status...

Also I have been grandfathered every since the Choice Extra packages came out, so its been a few years.

Believe me there is a big thread about this issue somewhere on the Forum. I lost my grandfathered service. I finally got it back only to lose it again when I changed my second receiver which was a plain HD receiver to an HD DVR :bang I thought it would be nice to have two HD DVR receivers. But I really messed up because now I can't get the grandfathered service back :( The issue on the thread I was talking about was that some people were getting theirs back while other people weren't. To my knowledge it was never in writing anywhere. So I have just given up on this issue. Just another case of D* being D* and doing what it wants to do when it wants to do it :grrr: Rant over

I too am grandfathered for Free DVR for life w/Premier. When I activated my new HR21 I replaced my old Hughes SD receiver which was the primary receiver for my account. I had seen the previous discussions about losing the grandfather status and I made sure I told the CSR about this. I got lucky and she was aware of the problem told me that the disconnect of a primary receiver will eliminate the grandfather status. As a result she "re-wrote" my account. It took about a half hour. When I checked my statement on line, I saw she terminated all my services and then reinstated them. It worked and I still have my grandfathered status.

Got a call back from a supervisor and she said once removed (even if it was DTV's fault) it can never be grandfathered back in. However, she did say that as long as I keep premier and am in good standing I can call in every 12 months to get it credited for the next 12 months thus essentially grandfathering me in. I had her put it in writing and here is the email she sent to me:

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for writing. It was a pleasure speaking with you today. As you requested I am confirming our conversation regarding the service call fees, the DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN and your DVR Service.

As I explained we have already credited your account in the amount of $79.95 for the service call and have removed the DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN from your account. The service call is guaranteed for 90 days and after that time, should a service call be required, the service call will be done with full charges unless you decide to add the DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN to your account at that time.

Regarding the DVR Service, you will not be charged for DVR Service as long as you keep our PREMIER programming package on your account and your account remains in good standing.

Thank you again for writing. I appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Now I will call one more time and make sure this has been added to the notes on my account.

I have Premier and the grandfathered DVR inclusion. A while back I de-activated the primary receiver on my account and set a different unit as the new primary. I talked with the CSR BEFORE having any changes made, explained the situation completely and the desire to keep the DVR fee included in Premier. She was very knowledgeable, knew exactly what to do to accomplish that, and the change went smoothly.

I have seen a number of posts from people who de-activate the primary receiver on their account and lose grandfathered status. You need to be very careful if you are going to do that, and even then there is a chance it will be done wrong.

Just a cautionary note for anyone else who faces that issue in the future.

That was the whole point of the thread I was talking about. Some people were told they could never get it back while others got it back. I still can't understand why D* doesn't want it's highest level customers not to have the DVR Service free  It makes no sense to me at all :whatdidid
