I have two HR24's, each with 2 TB drives. They have been seeing heavy duty during the Olympics, with HD recordings up to 12 hours in length. When I delete one of these large recordings, the DVR will "freeze" for up to approximately 60 seconds, i.e. become unresponsive to remote commands and, in some cases, freezing the live content. In every case, the DVR comes alive again if I am patient. I have not noticed such behavior before. Anyone know what is causing this?

Sometimes it just takes a while to do the deletion of large files. I don't know what it's busy doing, but I went through a similar thing this morning on my wife's DVR. She deleted 30 hours (of 1 hr shows), and it took over a minute to complete the deletion and rebuilding of the play list. In your case, it sounds like you didn't have 12 shows, but only one 12 hours long, so indexing shouldn't have been the problem.

Same thing going on with ours. When we delete large groups of recordings (which are only large because the DVR does not recognize repeated showings) it hangs for a long time, does message that it is rewriting the list.

try a reset
Doing a reset on an HR with a full HDD will alleviate the "bogging down" problems we've seen when an HDD approaches full, but it's only a temporary fix. I don't think that's what he's talking about. I don't think the 24s even suffer from that problem.

I have a lot of capacity and if I were to delete, say, 85 episodes of Blue Bloods, which I don't like, but my wife does, I would expect the HR to be unresponsive for a minute or two after the shows appear to be deleted. I've seen this many times since the new HD GUI was introduced and have gotten used to it.

I suspect the delay is normal behavior, Rich. My 2TB drives are currently each less than 10% utilized, so utilization cannot be the cause.

Agreed. I usually delete one program at a time, and stuff such as Oly and golf coverage take longer than other HD stuff. Deleting a folder yesterday took a good half minute to rebuild the playlist.

My great hope is that updating the playlist so thoroughly paves the way for IP control of To Do Lists and Series settings....

I think the TS is concerned about the period after all the deletion stuff is done when the remote becomes unresponsive. I've seen this many times too.

I think it's pretty obvious that deleting does not just remove the flag for reserved space, like -- used to, not to be over writen but does more during the function. The larger an item is and the amount of items it takes makes it do more things. I deleted 20 shows that were all 1 hour of HD a piece and it took a minute or so for the entire process to complete. It made me pine for -- again.
