Moving to our new house Oct 22 and Uverse isn't available there, so we're coming back to DirecTV. Got a better deal with the wife signing up with AAA as a new customer, than I could get as a returning one. Hopefully we'll get R22's, but should we expect them? We get two dvrs free and are getting a 3rd dvr for $99. If we don't get R22's, I'll cancel the 3rd dvr and buy a R22 at Circuit City for $99.

Anything from R15, R16 or the R22. Odds are R16.

Have you thought of getting an HD DVR?
Not really, our next tv will be HDTV, but that could be in 6 months or less or 5+ years from now, as we're happy with our 32inch JVC tv. Had it since '98 and it's still works perfectly. Don't feel a need to pay $9.99 more a month for it either.

If we do get R15 or 16's, might just refuse all three and go buy R22's for the installer to hook up. Guess I could just buy one R22 now and cancel the order for the 3rd dvr, just to make sure I have one receiver for the installer to hook up.

Is it correct that the R22 is the only SD receiver to work with On Demand?
Yes, it is the only SD DVR with an ethernet jack. Works great. :)

make sure that you have requested for the exact reciever you want. Call back and make sure its noted on your account. Then I would call the installer and make sure they see it on the notes as well. I did this in order to get a HR20 and it worked out for me and I was told it was about a 1 in a million shot I would get it. Well I got it and could not be more happy.

You need to know up-front that R-22s are ONLY used in areas where the locals are broadcast via Ka/MPEG4. The vast majority of the country will not get an R-22; you'll get an R-16 instead. R-22s are only used because they more-or-less have to in those specific areas.

If you aren't where they are used, your local techs won't even have any available to them.

They have them for sale here, so hopefully they will have them for install too. If not, we will definitely buy one, if not two.
