E* vs. D* (Personal Experience)

This is more of an informational post than anything. I live in the Twin Cities area in MN and have had the chance to compare D* and E* directly. (I've been a Dish customer for about a month now). My in-laws have D* with HD service and live about a mile from me and they have the D* H21 receiver. I've had the chance to go back and forth and look at PQ between our 2 services, they have a Sony Bravia LCD which is a step up from the RP TVs that I currently own. The PQ when viewing ESPN, CBS, NBC are all identical between our 2 services, both had macro-blocking and image tearing at the same spots. We had a big rain-storm last night, and signals for both our homes were lost at roughly the same time.
This not only re-affirms my decision to purchase the E* service, but I'm glad to know that I'm saving quite a bit of money per month for the same programming. :D I've been very happy with E*, my installation went off without any problems, and they got my bill right the first time. That's how it's supposed to be right? I'm glad I cut the coax, no turning back now!

It is how it is supposed to be
:D
I myself entertained the idea of switching to the dark side. I am glad I did not, I now know I made the right choice.

Exactly how its supposed to be. And even though I'm a long time Dish customer, I know it isn't always how it is. But neither are the others.;)

I too thought about switching to the dark side (with a bundle from Verizon). Two of my relatives have D* with HD and seeing the choppy signal on my uncles 1080p Samsung LCD, I am also I did not make the wrog move.

I'm with you bud. Thanks Dish :), what can we do with out you
I've had em both, started out in 96 with directv switched to dish in 98, got mad in 2001 and went back to directv for a year had the tivo dvr, liked the dvr, hated the service ,came back home to dish cause I feel they have the best hardware and service. And I also experienced more rain fade with direc
After spending 10 years with "D" and having owned their HR20 HD DVR for the last 2 years I can say that there is no difference in PQ or SQ between "D" and Dish. I have seen dozens of customers of both providers and see no differences in performance quality. Both offer a few different HD channels but I'm sure that will only be temporary. Competition will keep them honest and pretty equal. Monthly pricing is also very close. Service is similar. It just depends on who picks up the phone when you call. I've spoken to good and bad agents from both. The equipment however is quite a different story. I find that Dish's 722 HD DVR offers a much better all around package then the new HR21 and HR22 from Directv. The HR21 and HR22 require a separate (at a cost) piece of equipment to receive off air signals. Generally "D" will charge $99 to $199 for an existing customer to up grade to the HR series DVR's. Also the 722 has a much larger hard drive then the HR21. Not sure about the HR22. "D" does offer a lighted remote for $25. Very nice and well worth the cost.

Dish will be offering the 722K DVR which will not have an OTA tuner.
Unless the 722K offers something extra I don't see any reason for building it. Unless they take "D"s reasoning and call it a cost savings to them and that nobody really uses the off air feature anyway. Will the 722K still have three usable tuners?

Just an update, I just went on the web and changed my package from bronze to silver and added the multi-sport package, and all my new channels showed up in less than 5 minutes! I love this self-service stuff, no need to talk to a human. :D This is how it's supposed to be!
I have had DirecTV for 9 years and DiSH Network mostly on for 9 years.

A MLB fan will understand when I say the Mets are on WPIX Saturday Afternoon this week. :)

Sirius Bluegrass beats XM Bluegrass. :)

No, I don't think so but, you could chat with an online CSR.
