I just moved to Wilmington North Carolina from Arizona and plan to upgrade from my old Dish 500 standard definition system to HD. My question is: must I use the Eastern Arc 1000.4 dish, or can I use a 1000.2 dish and point at 110/119/129 locations?

If you stay with standard definition, WA (110, 119) will do. If you upgrade to HD, then EA with just 61.5, 72 would be needed as the HD locals for Wilmington NC are on 61.5.

Correct. The eastern arc is all MPEG4, even for SD, so many of the older receivers will not work for eastern arc.

Do you want SD or HD the 322 is SD. You can lease a 222 if you want a dual tuner HD non DVR receiver.
1000.2EA will get you 61.5 and 72.7 which should be all you programming.
1000.2 WA will get 110/119 & 129 but in Wilmington you may have problems seeing 129. The look angle will be quite low.

Wilmington HD locals are not available on 129 - if lusitan wants HD locals - he will have to be on eastern Arc (61.5 / 72.7 and maybe 77). And that means a ViP receiver. As suggested, the 222 would be the replacement for his current 322.
