EchoStar, DirecTV take lobbying tour to Nashville

Executives with the nation's two largest satellite companies breezed through Nashville yesterday to drum up support for their proposed mega-merger, which they said would bring high-speed Internet and digital TV services to the state's rural residents.

In doing so, EchoStar Communications Corp. and Hughes Electronics Corp. sought to counter concerns raised by consumer groups and several members of Tennessee's congressional delegation, who fear that the $26 billion merger would harm customers by creating a satellite monopoly.
