EchoStar Communications Corp. plans to launch its first television-commerce options this fall, with multiple shopping services offered through Dish Network receivers with interactive-television capabilities, company executives said earlier this week during an on-air subscriber 'Tech Chat.'

The company plans to introduce what it calls a 'Dish Wallet' so that consumers can store their credit-card information remotely on EchoStar servers for instant-ordering capability via the remote control.

Because the credit-card information would be secured on Dish servers, the confidential information would not travel the Internet during each transaction, and it wouldn't be stored on subscriber receivers in case a customer were to sell the set-top box.

I'm still wondering how this will all work technically. Probably a direct connection to the phone line, but will it be a LD call, local call to a local ISP, or 800- number.

Just think, soon you can sign up for Credit Card auto pay and shop using your Dish Network receiver.

Let's hope they dont use the same methods they use for PPV orders for Home Shopping orders.

Twice in the past I have gotten bills for PPV's I did not order. The first was on June 30th of last year, I got a bill in stating I ordered Extasy TWICE on the same day. This was IMPOSSIBLE as #1 I have the adult channels blocked. #2 June 30th was a day I got married! I didn't need no porn that day! I wasn't even home! I got my marriage certificate to prove it!

I called Dish Network to dispute the charges and they told me I HAD to pay it, they refused to remove them from my bill.

The second PPV I got charged for that I did not order was for Cats & Dogs. I did not order this because 1) I already own the DVD of the movie & 2) the Date and time of the movie my son was in school.

Again they refused to remove the charges from the bill.

Can you imagine coming home to find a Genuine Cubic Zerconia Ring from QVC on my doorstep and not being able to return it because they said my reciever ordered it!

I don't think that you would get much in the way of jewlery, but you might have to change your diet as all those Dominos pizzas arrive at the door.

Hopefully, there will be some sort of lock mechanism in order to prevent accidental purchases. I already have a lock on my PPV so that there are no accidental purchases.

OH MY GOD! I hope they don't use Microsoft servers, they are the worst when it comes to security.

Hey, Scott, you sure you weren't having a Bachelor Party on the cheap! ; )

I wonder if they will now implement the MAIL feature like email. Hope we dont get spammed to death. Wonder how much memory all that spam would take up.

Also on the Games on OpenTv they said we would be able to play against other Dish users. This is nice to finally have some connectivity to other Dish users - wonder if they will enable some type of chat or be able to send emails to each other on the noninternet receivers, just type in things like you do on naming favorite lists, another $5 a month money maker.

Also wonder if one chooses to have PPV locked out if it would also lock out the buy feature for purchasing more channels or purchasing products on the system.

Dish would probably get a cut from each sale on the receiver which would be revenue for them just like websites do on the internet for selling company's product. They could even make money for just the advertisement of the product.

How about classifieds on Dish Home, customers could purchase ad space to sell items and then use the email feature to email the person if they would get this and then voila, you have another money maker. Easy to access on Dish Home and for all the OpenTv Dish subscribers to view. On the PVR model receivers where they have a search feature you could search for products, or search for the highest bidder if they choose to have autions, they could even sell Dish products and parts.

They could give out Dish points towards Dish product or programming or free ppv's for each purchase on Dish Home if you buy other people's products.

They should give each DBS forum the opportunity to publish a FAQ within the Dish Interactive system somewhere. It would probably help cut down on support costs.
