Many surge protectors include multiple coax surge protection inputs. To my knowledge - they are only rated for signals through 2.2 GHz. With the HR20, will that cause any issues since I believe it will operate through 3.0 GHz?

In other words, will the surge protectors designed prior to the release of the HR20 impact your picture - reduce resolution, dropouts, etc. - when DirecTV expands their high definition package?

Thanks

2.1 something GHz is the upper input limit of the HR-20. The new Ka will come down the cable lower & be upconverted into the same range as now.

When I first installed a DVR, I had one cable going through the satellite ports on my surge protector. I tried running the second port through the antenna ports and it apparently wouldn't pass 18 volts, since I could only receive the even transponders.

My D* installer told me that D* recommends not to use a surge protector for the power. But I've heard others say to use one. Which is right?
BACK THE TRUCK UP!!!

He said what?

Maybe he meant it wasn't necessary to use surge protection on the RG6 cables. I'll agree with that, but there is no reason to think that a surge protector could hurt your HR20 and it can only help.

Hmmm, I think he meant not to use the cable inputs in the surge protector.
I use a UPS which of course has a built-in surge protector, which both my TV and HR20 are plugged into. Have had no problems...
except that my 83 y/o mother doesn't realize the power has failed sometimes during the day, because the TV and HR20 are humming along fine until the battery dies, which defeats the whole purpose, but that is another story...

Maybe I said that wrong. I'm talking about plugging the power into a surge protector, not the coaxial. He said they recommended not to use a surge protector for the plug.

I'd still back the truck up.

One simple question... did the installer work for Ironwood??

I would strongly suggest powering your TV and satellite receiver (and other sensitive electronics) through a protection device, like a surge protector. I don't know how one would affect the coax lines between your dish and IRD, however.

I personally use BELKIN surge protectors because they have a warranty that if something plugged into their surge protector gets fried, assuming you still have the box and receipt, and present an invoice for repair/replacement costs for the damaged item(s), BELKIN will re-imburse you for these things.

I have personally files claims twice due to two close lightning strikes. This warranty saved the day! I don't know how many other manufacturers do this.
