Just a curiosity for those who watch this show... it was heralded over and over as Ellen's first day in HD, and yet KNBC-DT Los Angeles showed the SD feed. Did other markets get the HD feed?

I seldom watch Ellen, but I just checked today's listing -- it says the show is in HD.
I'll be out and about today, but I'll record the show and report back on whether it
is in HD or not from WJXX JAX FL via Comcast.

It was listed in HD in the guide data yesterday but was in glorious standard definition. It is also listed in HD for today.

It airs on WGCL 46 in Atlanta which is the CBS affiliate. Ellen did not air due to the US Open.

The other syndicated shows that were to be in HD yesterday:

Oprah was in HD on WSB 2 (ABC)

Doctor Phil was in SD on WXIA 11 (NBC) though before they moved Wheel and Jeopardy to WATL 36 (MNT), they aired on WXIA in HD.

Entertainment Tonight was HD on WSB 2 (ABC)

The Insider was SD on WXIA 11 (NBC)

I will check these all again tonight.

Just FYI, I don't know about Oprah, but ET and Insider on KCBS were in stunningly saturated HD last night.

Grrr... you'd think being in the #8 Market we'd get these shows in HD...Not that I watch these shows, but if it is available in HD I expect to have it in HD.

Ellen, Dr. Phil were both SD today.

Kudos to WSB
Boos to WGCL and WXIA.

Okay...I emailed KOIN here is there response:

At this time KOIN does not have the equipment to air Ellen in HD.

Thank you,

What? I don't get it. They show national CBS shows in HD? Is it because Ellen is syndicated? Why would that make a difference?

It was in SD on KNBC again yesterday. I know they do their evening news in HD so they have the equipment.

Our local KGW, showed Oprah it was in SD, they also do our local news in HD.
KOIN, is airing Ellen in SD, does not broadcast the local news in HD but does broadcast in "Digital Widescreen". KOIN is the one who blames it on not have the right equipment to air the show in HD. I think I would buy that excuse if Oprah was airing in HD on the channel that has local news in HD being as KOIN doesn't air their local news in HD. Does that make sense? FWIW Entertainment Tonight on KOIN was not in HD either :(

Our local NBC affiliate has news in HD, but also claims they do not have all the equipment to record and re-air everything in HD.

Ellen was on KGUN 9 in SD, they also do not have the equipment to record and re-air HD programming.

ET was in SD on KOLD for the same reasons.

Upgrading to HD is expensive and not on all stations high priority lists. If it wasn't for the network HD servers I don't think we'd be seeing much HD at all. Even companies like ESPN and FSN which claim to do just about everything in HD still have a lot of SD content. It all takes time and money.

Yes, but you'd think WNBC and KNBC, the owned-and-operated flagship stations of the brand, would be pretty much set by now, wouldn't you.
