Should I bring Elvis to life now or wait for a national tour?

EDIT - I am mainly concerned with the bug "Do wish to keep or delete" when trying to view a recorded show. I can get along with the other bugs until they get ironed out.

I was about to write "too early to tell" when I received a call from my wife. Less that 12 hours in, I've just experienced the same bug some others have seen as well.

During a Trick Play (3xFF in this case), the system froze first, then rebooted. My Wife was doing this as I am at work now. However, even if you DO upgrade to 0x115, you can alway downgrade if it is problematic for you.

I will watch the posts today and make up my mind tonight. I do like the idea of being able to bring unit back to old version.

But don't we have to downgrade to FA?

For me, I am really happen with the Menu improvements. I haven't experienced the MPEG4 trick play problem yet - that would really annoy me.

But I spent some time watching last night and thought the box felt a bit more stable cruising through the menus and watching SD programming.

So does 115 offer any improvments to the HR20's networking ability?
No... no changes to the networking features.
See the release notes for full details on what the release contains.

So does this release seem to fix the keep or delete error when trying to view a recorded show? Has anyone been able to view a saved show which used to be unwatchable in the previous versions?

As for the Keep or Delete... since there is no way to "force" it to occcur... it is a time will tell thing.

For the viewing previous unwatchable.... It will "recover" some, but for most it won't. Because it was an error at the time of recording, not an error with playback.

I plan on trying to record a hockey game off Center Ice tonight and see if the recorder will play it or not. This is where I was getting the keep or delete error. Hopefully I will have better results there...

Out of four programs yesterday, three were corrupted ( keep/delete bug) on my hr20. I did the update last night, the same four are due to record today, two are already done and they are watchable ( I checked), the other two are due to record this afternoon and I'll dang sure check each one as soon as they are done.

I'd say so far so good, and if I were on the fence I'd go ahead and upgrade. You can always go back. But so far with the speed increases ( minor issue for me, but may be major for you) and the initial success with the keep/delete bug, I'd say do it.

Since I first got my HR20, I have always been able to force the Keep/Delete Bug or some releated version. Here is what I posted about bugs in the 0x115 release thread.

Bugs That Remain
KD Bug (Keep/Delete/Negative Time)
To replicate KD Bug: highlight an item to delete My Playlist & and press PLAY. Press & hold FFW (>>) to go to the end of the program. Press Advance (Skip) twice. You should get the Keep/Delete pop-up. Click Delete. In My Playlist the show you just deleted is still listed! Highlight it and press PLAY. Now the show will have problems: The time in the time bar may be a negative number. You may have no audio. It may instantly pop-up the Keep/Delete. KD Bug still there.

Wrong Info Bug
I checked the To Do List in both the HR20 and Sony T65. The Sony Series Passes are set to mirror the HR20 Series Links. As always the Sony is going to record shows the HR20 would have missed because of the Wrong Info Bug still being present.

CIB Bug
The Channels I get Bug is still there. It cannot "Display only the channels that are in your current subscription package" p. 33

GUIDE button still does not "displays the Guide" first and Channel Categories second per p. iv. & 4

Still cannot Autorecord after a Search by Title as described in the manual on pp. 20 & 31

Keyword Search will still not let you search "with your desired...keyword" p. 2 Can't Keyword search for "CSI: NY" or "Bears @ Seahawks".

The "Videos" menu option under Music & Photos is not functional.

The "Sound Effects" tab still does not work (see the photo on p. 29 of the manual).

The GUI still has the same consistency problems. In some cases the cursors wrap to the bottom or top when reaching the top or bottom of a menu pane. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes the Left arrow is like the Back button in menus and sometimes it is not.

I was happy I celebrated the King's birthday. You can always go back to 0x10b.

Craig, Is this REALLY the KD bug? To me, that sounds like you're setting up a simulation of the bug and you get the same result, but the cause is different, isn't it? IOW, when the true KD bug appears, it may very well be because the recording isn't actually there even though it is displayed in the list. But the real issue (I think) is why the recording isn't there (some error by the HR20). In your case, you're forcing it to not be there by manually deleting it. Granted it should no longer be displayed in the list, but from your description of the steps you took, this doesn't sound like it replicates the KD bug...rather it produces the "program not removed from list after being manually deleted" bug. The KD bug, as I understand it, is when you attempt to play a recording for the first time and all you get is the KD dialog. Please explain if you think I'm wrong or misinterpreting your comment. Thanks.

Great questions. I only have guesses for answers.

I have gotten KD Bug using this simulation. I have tried it a number of ways:
- 1 Sat tuner vs 2
- 1 OTA tuner vs 2
- While Live vs playback vs paused
- Deleting several shows at once or just one
- Rushing back in versus waiting a few seconds.
- How to Delete? Double dash, Info, Keep/Delete

There are a lot of permutations. I have gotten many different results including just playing back the deleted show as if nothing had happened. Using the Keep Delete Pop-up is the best way to get errors.

I have gotten at least 10 different variations on our bugs. Randomly it has given me the KD Bug but only twice.

Part of me goes back to old CP/M days and later multithreading. It is bad luck to let the user open files the operating system thinks are deleted.

Yes this happened to me, just minutes after the upgrade completed. In fact I thought what had happened is the D* was doing a manual upgrade for me. BUt I guess not.

I was rewinding, about 2 or 3x and all of a sudden it just rebooted. So I guess we need to watch out for this one.

I just came across this thread as I was watching a recorded version of Monster Garage that has happened after the update and tried to recreate this bug - no effect . Infact, it has never FF/RW better. I tried a Monster that was recorded pre- 0x115 and the same thing, wonderful FF/REW/REPLAY but one thing I have noticed as that the slow motion seems a bit faster than I think it should be. I may have to toss that one up on the items of interest.

For me its get new release but dont activate OTA or networking yet. Works great without those features. Turn on and things start to go wrong.
