encoding avi's for tversity.now vista shows wrong free space

hopefully somebody here can help. I have nee ripping home movies and encoding them them to avi to use with tversity and my hr21'

Normally I rip to vob, encode to avi, transfer to external drive and delete from c drive.

My ripper typically show free disk space about 87gb while explorer shows it about 85k.

Last night I ripped a home movie to a vob about 6.4gb. I encoded to a higher bitrate avi with a finished product of 2.7 gb.

BUT my free space went from 83gb to 57gb. after transfering the avi and deleted my vob, I only show 62gb of free space.

Where did 23gb go? How do I get Vista/explorer to properly report free disk space?
