i am not getting any hd channels from my hd receiver.i receive this message "searching for signal on satellite ln 1 (771) and sometimes ln 2(771)
called directv and they sent out a technician yesterday (wed).
he feels it is either a faulty receiver or the dish was not properly installed. he wrote it up and said directv will call to set up a new service visit.
due to my negligence i don't think the installer showed me any hd channels when he installed my dish.
when the new service man comes what should i insist that he should do to pinpoint the problem.
thanks

The HD channels are currently on Sat 110 and 119. Make sure you get good signals on these sats before he goes.

I am having the same problem. D* is sending out a teck on saturday they say my dish is out of alignment. I have had to have this dish aligned twice now. The worst part is that both time the tecks says they have never done one of the 5lnb dishes. Makes me feel real good. They were going to charge me a service charge until I told the CSR this and they changed their mind. She said she was going to request the SR Teck to come out. Yea right like that will happen. So no HD channels until Saturday.

i just checked my signal strength and this is what came up.
satellite 101
tuner 1=96%
tuner 2=96%
every other satellite reads not acquired.

satellite110
sat. transponders=3 total
the rest n/a

satellite 119
sat. transponders=11 total
the rest n/a

i do not understand any of this.
please clarify.
thanks

If what you mean is every other transponder reads not aquired that means you
have a bad multiswitch either outside of the LNB, or in the LNB itself.

The transponders will always be there, what are the signal levels of the
transponders?

Also, how many receivers do you have? Is this on all of the receivers or just
the HR20?

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have a multiswitch installed? The new dishes don't play well with any old multiswitches you may have had installed previously.

Try routing (if only temporarily) your coax runs directly from the dish to the HR20 with no multiswitches in the path and see if that fixes your problem. I had the exact same issue when my dish and HR20 was first installed several months ago.

If that fixes the problem and you still need to have a multiswitch, the model that works with the new dishes is a Zinwell WB68

Good luck

i just checked the signal strength on 2 regular receivers.
the results are as follows:
110=91%
119=93%
but i do not get these results on my hd dvr receiver.

Are you going through a multiswitch or are these directly from the LNB?

Is it possible to swap places to verify cables/ports are good?

Also, what about the transponders missing like you said?

the installer set up zinwell wb68
there are 2 cables from the dish that go into the zinwell.
then 2 cables that go into 2 rectangular boxes (directv sup 2400)
from there the cables go into the receiver sat1 and sat 2
i took the cables coming from the wall and attached them directly to the receiver.
still did not get the hd channels, and the picture on other channels was kind of herky-jerky.
that's where i stand right now.
i will wait and see if directv calls me today, since the tech who was here yesterday said they should. if not i will call tonight and once again tell them to send someone who can correct the problem

this is the latest regarding my problem.
i spoke to a directv technician on the phone this afternoon.
she had me go thru some steps to see what the strength of the signal was on satellite 110 and 119.
when she was told that there was no signal, she arranged for a tech to come to my home this sat.
she felt the problem was in the receiver or the cables coming from the outside dish into my home.
the tech suggested that i take one of my regular receivers and attach it to the hd television to see what would happen.
the signal strength for satellites 110 and 119 was the same as the hd dvr receiver so i conclude it is not the receiver that is causing the problem.
so when the tech comes out sat i will remind him that the outside cables may be the cause.
they asked for a "senior technician" to come to my home.
that's it from here.

ps: thanks for everyone's advice.

i think i solved the problem.
the reason i was not getting any hd channels on my hd dvr was due to the fact that there were only 2 cables coming from the dish to the "zinwell wb68" they both went to the output 99/101.
there were no cables going to the outputs 103/110/119.
i called directv to tell them my findings and they agreed with me.
tomorrow (sat) a "senior"technician will come to my house.
the question is- should i mention this to him or should i wait to see what he thinks is the cause of the problem.
once again thanks for your responses.
happy new year

None of the techs that have ever come to my house spoke much English, so telling them may or may not do you much good. Maybe things are different where you live.

Assuming you get a competent tech it sounds like you did a good job troubleshooting your problem so you should definitely share with him/her what you know. They'll probably test it themselves anyhow but if you can give them someplace to start it might speed things up.
