What kind of esata case do you have?
esata external works on hr21-700 but not on hr21-100
So, have had a hr21-700 with esata drive case attached for a while. Everything works great.
DirecTV sent a hr21-100 to replace a different dvr. Attached a new esata drive case to the hr21-100. No go. It seems to poll the drives on the case a few times and then goes ahead with the internal drive ignoring the external drive.
When this new esata drive case is attached to the hr21-700, it works fine.
Are there any differences between the hr21-700 and hr21-100 series that would cause the drive case to work on the 700 but not the 100?
Anything else?
If it appears to be a problem with the hr21-100, how do I go about exchanging it with the DirecTV? When I asked DirecTV customer service and tech support about the problem, they said DirecTV does not support esata external drives so its not really a problem.

I've never had a 21-100, but I know they are made by the same folks who brought us the 20-100 and I've never had one (and I've had at least 15) that worked with an eSATA. I had one 20-100 that destroyed an eSATA and when I took the eSATA off and tried the internal drive it apparently destroyed that drive too. Started banging and whining and went back for yet another replacement. I did learn from that experience never to start a new or replacement HRxx with the eSATA set up initially. I always make sure it runs correctly with the internal drive first.
