When was the last time there was anything on the ESPN alternate channels (around 210~213)? They used to put an alternate baseball game on when ESPN or ESPN2 had a weeknight game but I haven't seen this in years.

As mentioned above, they are still used for ABC mirror coverage and during the NCAA Women's Tournament. They are also used during college sports and are only available where it's a "local" game so that it never cuts away from the game even during a huge blowout. In this situation, the customer is not blacked out of the ESPN main feed, but also receives the alternate channel. Of course, this means most customers won't even realize that the alternate channel is even on.

They hardly use the channels for "regular" blackouts anymore. Instead, they just have cable companies show ESPNews when a game should be blacked out instead of providing an alternate feed.

Oh OK. Since I don't really watch college football or any basketball, I guess that explains why I didn't notice it. I guess ESPN doesn't offer alternate baseball games on Wednesdays anything.. heck, then again, ESPN used to do a 7pm and 10pm game every Wednesday night, too.

Did ESPN's current contract lower the number of weekday/weeknight MLB games they can telecast? ESPN used to also show 3 or 4 MLB games on holidays like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, with 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, and 10pm games. ESPN would also occasionally show a weekday game (like 1pm Thursday). This seems to have all changed in the past few years.

Since I have the MLB EI package, I rarely watch ESPN anymore, but was just thinking about the way it used to be.

I guess either MLB raised the price for each MLB game or ESPN is trying to get out of the MLB business.
